The Israeli Prime Minister went on Wednesday, September 9, to the Syrian slope of Mount Hermon, on the border between Israel and Syria, for a visit to the Israeli soldiers deployed there, accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Israel Katz.
A trip condemned by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release. Syria considered that the presence on its soil of Benjamin Netanyahu constituted a “provocative” approach and a “blatant violation” of the country’s sovereignty.

After the Islamist Ahmad al-Charaa came to power at the end of 2024 in Damascus, whose coalition of rebels overthrew President Bashar al-Assad, Israel launched hundreds of strikes against Syria.
Increase in visits to Syria
The Israeli army has also carried out incursions into the south of the country and deployed troops in the UN-monitored buffer zone that separated Israeli and Syrian forces in the Golan Heights, where Israel says it has established a “security zone”.
“We will not allow any terrorist army to establish itself on our border,” Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed on Wednesday, whose second and last visit to Syria dates back to November 2025.

Israel Katz visited Israeli soldiers stationed in southern Syria two weeks ago, sparking condemnation from Damascus, which denounced a “blatant violation of the sovereignty” of the country.
Israeli officials have also repeatedly affirmed their willingness to maintain troops in the “security zone,” where Israel seeks to establish a larger demilitarized zone.
