Tesla ‘stops’ Cybertruck production next year

Tesla is preparing the Cybertruck for retirement in a bid to increase its robotaxi production. In a post published Friday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company would “halt” Cybertruck production at its Texas Gigafactory around the middle of next year, “to make way for increased Cybercab production.”

The Austin, Texas, production plant is the only facility Tesla is known to assemble the Cybertruck and is equipped to manufacture the specialized components needed to build the vehicles. Musk didn’t mention whether production of the Cybertruck would be moved elsewhere, but that would be arduous, especially for a car that has never sold well. Although Tesla doesn’t break out individual sales figures for the Cybertruck, even analysts’ highest estimates put total deliveries at around 70,000 since its launch in 2023, significantly below the 250,000 that Musk once predicted would be sold each year.
