Cory Wharton and Taylor Selfridge have called it quits after nine years together – following Wharton’s affectionate on-screen interaction with Izzy Fairthorne in “The Challenge.”
The reality stars addressed their split on their respective Instagram accounts on Thursday, sharing statements with their followers about going their separate ways.
Selfridge, 32, shared a message on her Instagram Story, confirming that she was the one who ended the relationship.
“Yes, I’m gone,” the “Teen Mom” alum wrote. “I was tired of not getting basic respect from the person I was with for nine years and the father of my two children. I’m sure everyone could tell that over the last few years. I deserve more than that, and I will get it. End of story.”
Wharton, meanwhile, shared his own statement on his Instagram feed alongside a photo of himself with his three daughters: Mila, 6, and Maya, 4, who he shares with Selfridge, and Ryder, 9, who he shares with his ex, Cheyenne Floyd.
“A new chapter. Just me and my girls. ❤️,” Wharton, 35, began.
“Taylor and I have decided to separate. Although it is difficult to say publicly, I think it is important to be honest about where my life is right now,” he wrote. “We have shared many years, memories, love and above all, we have two beautiful daughters ❤️.”
Wharton also directly addressed Selfridge in his statement, writing, “I’m sorry, Taylor, that things didn’t work out the way we both hoped. I know there were times I could have been better, and I’m sorry for the way I let you down.”
He went on to say that his three daughters are his “entire world” and that entering this “new chapter” has made him want to “show up even more for them.”
He added that the chapter is also about him “doing the work” he needs to do on himself, “learning from (his) mistakes, growing, healing, and becoming the best version of (himself) that he can be.” »
The “Challenge” star admitted he “has his hands full” raising three daughters, but said he “wouldn’t have it any other way.”
He expressed his gratitude for being a daughter’s father, calling it what he was “put on this earth to do,” while admitting that he is “excited” but also “scared and nervous as hell” about what the future holds.
He also thanked his family and friends for supporting him “through everything,” saying he will “need (his) village more than ever.”
“New chapter. Same dad. ❤️,” he concluded.
Wharton and Selfridge’s split comes after Wharton’s affectionate interaction with her “Challenge” castmate Izzy Fairthorne on season 42 of the MTV reality show.
Fairthorne, 27, reflected on the situation in an interview with Page Six last month, revealing that fellow actor Nelson Thomas had warned her about Wharton’s complicated relationship with Selfridge.
“At the time, I was told what his situation was at home, and that may not have been the whole truth. I don’t think it was,” Fairthorne told Page Six.
“And that’s why, when Nelson came to me, I was obviously very shocked and disconcerted by his rudeness,” she continued. “But ultimately it also made me realize that there was something else going on here and that there was a reason why he was doing it.”
Fairthorne also reflected on watching clips of his interactions with Wharton, saying in part: “It’s a horrible situation. Looking back, I look at it and I’m like, ‘Now I know the whole situation. That’s not me. That’s not my character.'”
Wharton, for his part, addressed the drama in a statement on X, saying he had already apologized to Selfridge, “the person who needed to hear it the most.”
“I will continue to manage things behind closed doors,” he added. “It’s been a long time since I’ve been proud of who I see on camera, and this is one of those times.”
