The Elder Scrolls VI would have been titled Sentinel and would take place in Hammerfell

The Elder Scrolls VI might finally get its full name soon. According to Tom Warren of The Verge, Bethesda is preparing to announce the game as The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, and the reveal could happen as early as November. Warren expects this to be a name reveal only, so a trailer, gameplay, or release date probably shouldn’t be expected just yet. The report also states that the game is set in Hammerfell, the homeland of the Redguards previously seen in Daggerfall, Redguard and The Elder Scrolls Online, and that its story will weave itself into the history of the Elder Scrolls itself. Bethesda has reportedly been showing gameplay internally in recent months, although it has not commented on the report.

The name itself won’t surprise many fans. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma watched a live game at the Bethesda offices in August, and her post later used eight asterisks where the subtitle would be placed. Here’s what she posted.

Asha Sharma, CEO of XboxThe Elder Scrolls VI live playthrough: ******** this morning. The scale and grandeur is incredible. The story is even bigger.

Sentinel happens to be a large city in Hammerfell with exactly eight letters, and Bethesda Game Studios responded to it with the same eight asterisks, so the theory quickly caught on. A November reveal would also align well with Skyrim’s 15th anniversary on November 11. Bethesda first revealed the game at E3 2018, and the studio recently said The Elder Scrolls VI remains its primary focus even after Xbox’s layoffs. Until Bethesda makes it official, the Sentinel name and Hammerfell setting should be treated as strong rumors.
