The history of the weekend is still unwritten. But the ending is partially known.
The Cardinals will undoubtedly trade catcher Marvin Harrison Jr.
As a source with knowledge of the dynamics says, the situation has passed the point of no return. He’s not playing today, and he was not present for Saturday night’s games before the Week 5 game against the Lions.
Harrison was informed he would be traded, we’re told. The Cardinals chose to wait in order to get a little more mileage out of the Texans, or in hopes that another team will develop the urgency to make a deal, based on a possible injury.
The question is whether the Cardinals will finalize things after today’s game, or whether they’ll wait to see if a Bills or Rams receiver is injured Monday night.
At this point, there’s no reason not to wait until Tuesday morning.
Either way, it will be impossible for the Cardinals to turn back now and keep Harrison. Unless the Cardinals plan to deactivate him one week at a time, until the trade deadline arrives.
Could the often dysfunctional Cardinals decide to do the dysfunctional thing and completely change their mind about trading him? In theory, yes. In practice, they would elicit a potentially ugly reaction from Harrison.
Or his father, Hall of Fame catcher Marvin Harrison Sr.
