“The Mummy 4” officially titled “The Mummy: Book of the Dead”

The fourth “Mummy” adventure by Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz has a new title: “The Mummy: Book of the Dead”.

Fraser and Weisz reprise their roles as Rick and Evie O’Connell alongside a cast including John Hannah, Michael Johnston, Numan Acar, Kevin J. O’Connor and Oded Fehr. Plot details have not been revealed. As previously announced, Universal will release the film theatrically on October 15, 2027.

The actors first shared the screen in the 1999 hit film “The Mummy,” which follows a treasure hunter who accidentally awakens a cursed Egyptian priest with supernatural powers. A reboot of one of Universal’s classic creatures, the film spawned two sequels, 2001’s “The Mummy Returns” and 2008’s “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” as well as the 2002 spinoff “The Scorpion King” starring Dwayne Johnson. While Fraser starred in “The Mummy Returns” and “Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” Weisz was not in the third film in the series.

Filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who call themselves Radio Silence, are directing the fourth chapter of the decades-old action franchise, from a screenplay by David Coggeshall. Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are best known for 2019’s “Ready or Not” and the 2022 revival of the “Scream” franchise for Paramount, while Coggeshall’s credits include “The Family Plan” and “Orphan: First Kill.”

Sean Daniel will produce the fourth installment, having worked on the last five films in the franchise, including the 2017 reboot starring Tom Cruise. (This attempted revival of the property was a critical and commercial disaster, effectively ending the studio’s ambitions to create an interconnected dark universe.)

Other producers include William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment, as well as Clayton Townsend. Fraser and Jason F. Brown of Hivemind will executive produce “The Mummy: Book of the Dead.”
