EAST BOSTON, Mass. —
A pipefitter from Arlington, Massachusetts, was announced Thursday as the winner of Boston Logan International Airport’s “Voice of Logan” competition.
Christopher Donisi will provide the voice of official announcements above the airport, when travelers visit, return home or transit through the airport.
“It’s amazing; I’m so excited to be able to represent my city. It’s unreal,” Donisi said during his appearance on “Good Morning America.”
Donisi said his mother encouraged him to audition for the competition, which had more than 6,000 applicants.
“You have to follow your dreams, but you also have to follow your mother’s dreams,” Donisi said.
After his appearance on national television, Donisi spoke to Logan reporters and said that despite his new role, he was keeping his day job.
“This is the tenth time I’ve been in front of a microphone, and this is all going on today. Usually I have a wrench in my hands,” he said.
MassPort CEO Richard Davey said Donisi’s agency couldn’t be happier with the choice and said Donisi will begin recording holiday ads next week.
Donisi, a married father of two, said he expects to have “a good, long career” at Logan.
The goal of the competition was to find someone with an authentic Boston accent who could make a Bostonian feel at home.
Donisi’s voice will end the nearly 25 years of service of Joe LoGiudice, whose voice was heard by millions of travelers.
LoGiudice is not retiring from Massport. Instead, he will continue to focus on his other duties at the airport, where he has worked since graduating from Bridgewater State University in 1993.
