Tim McGraw has shared his views on what the “hardest” part of marriage is, after 30 years of marriage.
During a recent interview with Esquire’s “What I’ve Learned,” the 59-year-old country star shared that as his three children with Faith Hill grow up and start their own lives, they both find themselves “entering a new phase of life.”
“Sometimes that requires not talking about it and moving on,” he said. “And sometimes you have to sit down and talk about it a little bit, saying, ‘Hey, we need to check it out a little bit and see where we are now that everything’s changing.'”
He went on to say that “points of change in a marriage” can arise “regularly throughout a long marriage”, and these can often be “the most dangerous parts, I think, for a marriage”.
GREAT RELATIONSHIPS HAVE 3 ESSENTIAL INGREDIENTS — AND ONE FACTOR THAT CAN RUIN EVERYTHING

“And not talking about things, not clarifying things and not rediscovering yourself every chance you get,” he said. “I think it’s the best time to delve into each other and really rediscover each other in the worst times, when you think things are falling apart.”
According to him, it is important to have a solid foundation and to “always come back to it”, because “the longer you wait to come back to it”, there may come a time when it becomes “unattainable and you will never be able to cross this gap”.

McGraw and Hill married in October 1996 and have been a country music power couple ever since. During their marriage, they welcomed three daughters together; Gracie, 29 years old, Maggie, 28 years old and Audrey, 24 years old.
They also recorded several duets together during their relationship, including the Grammy Award-winning “It’s Your Life,” “Let’s Make Love,” and “Speak to a Girl,” which was featured on their first-ever collaborative album, “The Rest of Our Life.”

In an Instagram post shared on their 30th anniversary, McGraw reflected on their wedding day, writing that as he stood in his aunt’s backyard, he “watched my future walk toward me” and “In front of our closest family and friends, I was bonded with the most beautiful soul.”
“A lady who shone in my eyes, expanded my heart and gave me all the love she had. I was and still am baffled by her ability to love, forgive, nurture and be full of joy and laughter,” he wrote. “She’s a gift to the world, that’s for sure, but to us, we have her, all of her. And I (and my daughters) know who is ours, completely. It’s hard to describe what she means, she is the center of gravity of my life and the lives of our daughters and everyone who knows Audrey Faith McGraw.”

Although the two have been married for three decades and have collaborated musically on several occasions, McGraw shared in November 2023 that some of their biggest disagreements were over their music.

“I mean, we’re two different artists. We don’t always agree musically. In fact, some of our biggest disagreements come when we’re touring,” McGraw admitted during Time Magazine’s “Person of the Week” podcast.

“Faith is definitely Type A,” he added. “I’m a mess. I throw clothes everywhere. I mean, she’s always, constantly on me picking up my clothes. I mean, I spent 30 years living in a hotel… inside and out. So I’m constantly throwing stuff everywhere and she’s like, ‘You have to clean up after yourself.'”
