Democratic candidate for Maine Senate Troy Jackson denied having told the outgoing senator. Susan Collins “shut up” during a debate last week.
In an interview with CNN’s “State of the Union” that aired Sunday, Jackson told the host Dana Bash that he does not regret the harsh words spoken after a demonstrator interrupted the debate, even if Colin argued that these remarks were indicative of how Jackson treats women.
“I mean, she accused me of organizing it. I had no idea who it was,” Jackson said. “I had four debates with Senator Collins. Afterwards, I shook his hand every time. But what I’m not going to be is the senator who badmouths him. Colin. I’m not going to, you know, be accused of things like that.
During a heated debate Thursday evening, a protester opposed to data centers interrupted Colin as she tried to answer a question.
