A controversial State Department policy official embroiled in an email dispute with the deputy secretary of state has been removed as special envoy. just hours after POLITICO published an article recount the confrontation.
A US official confirmed Thursday that Paolo Zampolli was fired, saying his status “as an envoy has ended and he is no longer a government employee.”
When asked to comment on his dismissal, Zampoli said in a statement: “In the service (of the president Donald Trump) and the United States has been the greatest honor of my life. I am deeply grateful to the President Assetsecretary Rubio and the whole team.
“Now is the time to move on to the next chapter: getting back to business, building relationships and closing deals,” he added.
