Trump announces Katie Bailey to lead White House outreach to Congress

President Donald Trump on Saturday nominated Katie Bailey to head the White House Office of Legislative Affairs, naming her to serve as the administration’s liaison to Congress.

“Having worked on Capitol Hill, Katie understands how the executive and legislative branches of government can work together most effectively to achieve great success for the American people,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump added that Bailey currently serves as his deputy director for legislative affairs, serving as liaison to the Senate and, according to Trump, helping with the confirmation of Cabinet members including Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton.

Bailey’s LinkedIn profile indicates that she previously served as special assistant to the president from September 2025 to June 2026. She also served in numerous legislative positions on Capitol Hill, most recently as legislative director for Sen. Mike Braun, R-Ind.

Bailey’s appointment comes a day after Trump named Katie Zacharia as the new White House press secretary.

James Braid previously led the office, helping manage Trump’s legislative priorities in Congress, a task that could become more difficult if Republicans fail to maintain their majorities in both chambers after the midterms.

Braid, Trump said Sunday, was his “longest-serving” legislative affairs director. The president said Braid had done a “fabulous job and is now moving into the private sector”.

Trump announced Braid’s departure in late August, saying Braid would leave in September. In an article on X at the time, Braid said he was “deeply grateful” to Trump and Vice President JD Vance. Braid had been Vance’s top policy advisor and deputy chief of staff when he was a senator.

Vance had called Braid’s role “one of the most difficult jobs in the entire administration.”
