Trump calls Abbott a ‘RINO’ after Texas governor’s loss

President Donald Trump criticized Gov. Greg Abbott on Truth Social Tuesday night, shortly after Abbott conceded the Texas gubernatorial race to Democrat Gina Hinojosa.

“If Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, had not become a RINO in the last six months of his political life, he would not have lost,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He went back to his original formula, and it wasn’t pretty!”

RINO stands for “Republican in Name Only.”

“I’m going to become a political expert, both good and bad, on why these candidates won and lost!” Trump said in a follow-up message.

Hinojosa defeated Abbott, ending his bid for a fourth term, according to the Associated Press. She will become the first Democratic governor of Texas since 1995.

CBS Austin has reached out to Abbott’s office for a response.
