Trump complains about legal setback in California election lawsuit

On Saturday afternoon, President Donald Trump denounced Friday a federal appeals court’s refusal to block California from counting ballots associated with its list of approximately 20,000 presumed non-citizen voters.

“Why would they refuse to fix electoral fraud? » Trump wrote on Truth Social. “It’s like the rigged and stolen election of 2020, when we had a great case, but the Supreme Court didn’t want to hear it because they said that I, the President of the United States of America, had NO JURISDICTION to bring such a case.”

The president’s nomination comes two weeks after the Justice Department sued California after a federal review of voter registration records identified about 20,000 registered voters as possible non-citizens.

The administration sought to prevent ballots associated with those names from being counted pending citizenship checks, but election officials disputed the accuracy of the list.

More than 40 percent of names flagged as potential non-citizen voters are not on the state’s voter rolls, according to a legal filing Saturday by an immigrant rights group.

Mary Peltola responds to accusations that her campaign helped recruit a candidate with the same name

Mary Peltola, Alaska’s Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, has responded to a federal investigation and election lawsuit stemming from allegations that her campaign helped recruit Dan J. Sullivan to run against incumbent Republican Sen. Dan S. Sullivan.

“I am deeply offended by these accusations that I am involved in someone else’s candidacy,” Peltola said Friday.

“I’m not looking to solicit more competition,” she added. “I don’t need any help to win this race except from all of you in this room and the overwhelming support we have across this state.”

Also Friday, the FBI contacted people who gave money to Dan J. Sullivan as its investigation into the candidate intensified.
