President Donald Trump has revealed the only condition that will lead him to accept the results of the upcoming midterm elections, even if his party loses the election.
Trump said that once the ballots were counted, he would accept the results no matter what — as long as they were “honest.” His comment was eerily similar to what he said in the run-up to the 2024 election, which he ultimately won.
“If you don’t win this election, despite your best efforts, how do you plan to work with the Democrats if they control the House or the Senate?” a reporter asked him Tuesday before heading to Texas for back-to-back rallies in support of Republican candidates.
“We will find a way,” Trump said. The president mentioned that he has “strong” veto power, adding: “I hope that’s not the case, but if it is, it’s happened before with many presidents. You have a strong veto and you end up making deals.”
Asked if he would “respect the results no matter what,” Trump replied, “I will if it’s an honest election.”

Just as he did in the run-up to the 2020 and 2024 elections, Trump sowed doubt in the electoral process – a week before Election Day. Early voting has already begun, with more than 33 million votes already cast in person or by mail, according to NBC News.
In May 2024, Trump told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel“If everything is honest, I would happily accept the results.” But he warned: “If not, you will have to fight for the rights of the country. »
This time around, Trump ordered the Justice Department to file a lawsuit to block the certification of a close Senate race in Alaska if Sen. Dan Sullivan lost.
Trump and other Republicans have argued that since there is a second non-party-affiliated candidate named Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. on the ballot, it could siphon votes from the incumbent Republican candidate. The president went so far as to claim that the unaffiliated candidate is only running “because Democrats want to steal the election.”

CNN’s Dana Bash asked Attorney General Todd Blanche during Sunday’s episode of State of the union whether Trump is “laying the groundwork” to try to overturn the election – as he did after losing the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden.
Blanche then attacked Bash, telling him to “stop it!” »
“You need to stop this! You’re not a real person! Come on, man! This is crazy!” he said.
Meanwhile, nearly 600 social media accounts, podcasts and other popular right-wing online media outlets have posted more than 7,000 statements questioning the integrity of this year’s midterm elections, according to a report. Washington Post analysis published Tuesday.
Seventy percent of Americans are not convinced Trump would accept the midterm results if his party loses, compared to just 28 percent who say they are confident he would accept them, according to a recent survey. Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll found.
