President Donald Trump on Friday opened the door to the resignation of new White House press secretary Katie Zacharia, just days after getting the job.

Trump said he had just told Zacharia, “If I were you, I would reconsider.”

Zacharia faced criticism in the days following his first shaky press briefing. She has also faced scrutiny due to her legal history.

The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on Trump’s remarks.

Trump spoke outside the White House before heading to Georgia for a political rally in hopes of boosting Republicans’ electoral chances with just 18 days left before the midterms.

But Trump’s efforts to sell his agenda were partly muddled by Zacharia, who ended his first and so far only press briefing Tuesday after delivering halting remarks and taking questions from just three reporters.
