A tearful Trump voter says her brother was arrested by immigration agents and she now regrets voting for religious reasons.

A Texas woman who voted for President Donald Trump in 2024 tearfully declares today that she will “never vote for that man again.”
In an emotional interview, Jessica Vuittonet, the owner of a Hispanic cafe in San Benito, ten miles north of the southern border, told CBS News she doesn’t believe Trump’s sweeping crackdown on migrants will have an impact on her own family and other innocent immigrants.
“I know he was going to start deporting people,” she said. “But not innocent people, not hard-working people.”

Jessica Vuittonet says her brother, who has no criminal record, was arrested by ICE.
Vuittonet says his brother is among those arrested by Trump’s immigration henchmen. She says she voted for Trump for religious reasons, but now realizes Trump’s policies are “heartbreaking.”
“These are hard-working men who are being detained by ICE, not criminals,” she said. “The ones who are on roofs, who clean someone’s driveway, who cut someone’s grass, who literally have a work truck to go to work. Where are the criminals that you said you were going to arrest? Yes, you did a few, but the majority were hard-working people.”
She continued: “Hard working women. I just want to cry, women I saw with their children, walking to school every day. Where is your mother? Children left behind, broken families, it’s just heartbreaking.”

Trump’s violent crackdown, which reportedly led to the deportation of an estimated 980,000 people, most of whom have no criminal records, sparked regret among many Trump voters who wanted to see criminals removed from the country — not innocent families violently separated.
Benny Melendez, who installed fencing at construction sites he manages to protect his ICE workers, says he also regrets voting for Trump, just as he regretted voting for Biden in 2020.
Melendez told CBS News that so many arrests in his Texas community have made it difficult to find workers, and that building a home can take twice as long due to labor shortages. According to TRAC, Texas, a state that voted for Trump in all three of his presidential elections, has more immigration detentions than any other state.
Trump’s approval rating has fallen to a record low of 32%, according to CNN, just weeks before the midterm elections that are expected to be a bloodbath for Republicans, who are in serious danger of losing their majorities in the House and Senate.
The economy proved to be the most stubborn issue for most Americans, with two-thirds of voters and a third of Republicans saying the president has made economic conditions worse.

While polls suggest immigration is unlikely to be a defining issue before the November election, Matthew Grossman, a political scientist at Michigan State University, told the Guardian that Trump’s deportation policies were part of a general feeling that the president had “gone too far”, a feeling also seen in terms of the Iran war and tariffs.
However, the issue hasn’t fazed White House border czar Tom Homan: “My job as border czar is to keep this border secure and enforce immigration law,” he told CBS News earlier this month. “I don’t particularly care about midterms.”
