Trump’s midterm promises have a catch: The Republican Party must win

President Donald Trump He travels the country, peppering his stops with parish promises of new manufacturing plants, veterans’ facilities and laws to help farmers.

But there is a catch: he will only keep his promises – some of which are very specific – if the Republicans win in November. It’s not unusual for politicians to make promises in an effort to win votes, but they’re usually carrots, not sticks.

Some Republican operatives warn that this strategy risks backfiring amid heightened voter concerns about government corruption. A recent Fox News poll found that 60 percent of voters were extremely concerned about corruption, putting it ahead of concerns about inflation and health care.

Michigan GOP Strategist Jason Roewho works on Rep.’s re-election campaign. Tom Barrett (R-Mich.), added that it’s “definitely new.”
