I first met Katie Zacharia earlier this year, when I contacted her after seeing that she was at Mar-a-Lago during one of the trips I took there with President Trump.

Since then, I have exchanged messages with her relatively frequently and occasionally reached out to her for her perspective on events unfolding in Trump’s orbit and within the administration.

By a strange coincidence, I last spoke to her on the phone last Thursday – the day before she was announced as the new White House press secretary.

She is extremely connected within the wider Maga world and well-versed in global affairs – particularly China, where she worked for a time – and is very media savvy, having previously served briefly as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security and appearing frequently on Fox, CNN and other US networks.

But that’s not all that this job entails. Perhaps the most important qualification required for this position is loyalty to Donald Trump and his agenda.

In this regard, she is extremely well-positioned, and even among those in Trump’s orbit, she is known as someone who fiercely defends even his most controversial policies, sometimes doing so on panels alongside his intense critics.

Unlike some of Trump’s other political allies — those whose views of the president have changed throughout his now-long political career — she has never wavered in her positions.
