Two North Carolinians have died from West Nile virus :: WRAL.com

Two adults in central North Carolina have died from West Nile virus this year.

The Centers for Disease Control is reporting 11 additional cases in the state this year.

Dr. Cameron Wolfe, an infectious disease expert at Duke Health, said if you get West Nile, you probably won’t know it.

Possible symptoms listed by the CDC are similar to the flu, such as a fever with headache, body aches, joint pain, vomiting, diarrhea, or rash.

The CDC recommends preventing mosquito bites as the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones.

You can also use insect repellent, wear loose-fitting shirts and pants, and avoid staying outside between dusk and dawn when mosquitoes that spread West Nile virus are most active.
