The ascendant Briton was effective in the first round, landing at distance and taking the upper hand in exchanges while frustrating Allen, but an accidental glance and dominant round on the ground in the second put the Top 5 fighter back in the mix. Allen fought well in the third, and Duncan was effective on the feet in the fourth, setting up a crucial fifth round, where Allen was able to initiate a takedown, pull Duncan towards him to the canvas and lace up the fight-ending choke.
Just a match, a valiant effort in another tough fight against someone behind him in the rankings for Allen, who is now 16-4 in the UFC, tied for second all-time at middleweight. The Louisiana native continues to rise through the middleweight ranks and has requested an opportunity to face someone ahead of him in the rankings next time out, targeting champion Sean Strickland and former champion Dricus Du Plessis.
