US Embassy warns of possible ‘mass casualty event’ in Moscow

The US Embassy in Moscow on Saturday issued an urgent security alert, warning of a possible mass casualty event in the Russian capital.

“The U.S. Embassy in Moscow is aware of a credible threat of a mass casualty event TODAY, October 31, at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve in Moscow, Dolskaya Ulitsa 1, Moscow, Russia 11569. The U.S. Government is coordinating with relevant Russian authorities to respond,” the statement said.

The release also warns people to avoid the area and take steps to ensure their personal safety.

Later on Saturday, state media reported that the Federal Security Service (FSB) had received information from the United States regarding a possible terrorist attack.

“We have received information from American partners about plans for a terrorist attack in Moscow. We are taking appropriate measures,” the FSB told state media.

Tsaritsyno was evacuated Saturday, while musician Lilia Pechenkina played a concert. “As I played the last piece of the program, an evacuation announcement came over the loudspeaker,” Pechenkina told the Ostorozhno newspaper, Novosti!.

The Tsaritsyno Museum reserve was farm for “technical reasons”, a journalist from Ostorozhno, Novosti! was informed by security.

Around fifty law enforcement officers were shipped in the area and police vehicles patrol the perimeter, reported the Baza Telegram channel, which is believed to have links to Russian security services.

In 2024, the United States warned Moscow of an imminent terrorist threat ahead of the attack on Crocus City Hall on March 22, which left 145 people dead and hundreds more injured.

At the time, the head of Russian intelligence Sergei Naryshkin called “too general” information.

“The Federal Security Service (FSB) received information from American intelligence services that such a thing was unfortunately possible. But as our Russian colleagues said, this information was too general and did not allow us to fully identify the perpetrators of this terrible crime,” he said.
