Venice Beach bar The Whaler announces shocking service change

A historic Venice Beach bar shocked its patrons after announcing it would no longer serve alcohol, frustrating thirsty regulars at the longtime bar.

The Venice Whaler, located near Venice’s famous fishing pier, posted a message Friday about the service change while encouraging customers to support the alcohol-free trade.

“We are temporarily not serving alcohol, but our famous burgers, pizzas and good vibes are still there! » » we read on the establishment’s Instagram account.

“Behind every Whaler memory is a team that makes it happen. Come grab a bite to eat, bring your friends and help keep our staff working and our doors open,” they added.

The Whaler, which also has a location in Santa Monica, boasts of “giving locals the feeling of being ‘always on vacation,’ since 1944,” according to its website.

“The Venice Whaler without alcohol is like a strip club without strippers,” one wrote.

“No wonder everything is closed and struggling. And if they can’t bring in money to buy alcohol, this place will probably be another one that closes,” added another.

“Out of beer, out of here!” » intervened a third.

“It’s a shame. We need a new mayor and a city council that cares,” wrote another.

The California Post has contacted the Whaler and the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control for comment.
