Ecuadorian priest Patricio Sánchez died after a large cross fell on him while he was celebrating mass in a church in Guayaquil on Saturday evening.

The footage captured the moment the cross came loose from the wall behind the altar and struck Sánchez as he spoke to the congregation.
The service was broadcast live on social media. The Archdiocese of Guayaquil later confirmed his death and expressed its condolences to the religious congregation to which he belonged.
A memorial mass was held on Sunday at the church, in the presence of clergy and parishioners.
