The Zelda-themed Switch 2 released this week and Walmart is reportedly canceling some pre-orders at the last minute.
As Kotaku points out, some shoppers apparently received a message from Walmart informing them that their pre-order was canceled because the item is now out of stock. They will not be charged, but this information was only shared a day before the scheduled arrival, so they no longer benefit from the system.
Unfortunately, there have been similar stories in the past regarding pre-orders being canceled this way. Some people contacted customer service representatives, with Walmart supposedly confirming its “oversold” pre-orders.
Here’s one of many customer responses to Walmart canceling pre-orders:
“This is an unethical sales practice. They should not allow pre-orders beyond what they can stock. This denied their competitors a sale and denied an eager customer a chance at limited edition products. I will try again elsewhere, but I think consumers should be aware of this.”
Although still “out of stock,” Walmart’s new listings are now showing up at higher prices on its website. As Kotaku notes, prices attached to these listings may be “set by a third-party seller using Walmart.”
While this update from Walmart will undoubtedly be frustrating for customers who pre-ordered from that retailer, Nintendo has reiterated several times now how restocks for the Zelda-themed Switch 2 are underway. So there could be other ways to secure this limited edition unit.
Website Vooks.net also reports that the official Nintendo Store in Australia received additional Zelda Switch 2 stock this week.
