SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Guard Brandin Podziemski received a rookie-level contract extension from the Golden State Warriors. The reported 5-year contract is worth $110 million and will take him through the 2031-32 season.
Coach Steve Kerr expressed his excitement for the fourth-year pro before a preseason game against the Sacramento Kings.
Podziemski’s deal reportedly includes a mutual option for the fifth season, meaning the parties could renegotiate the fifth year or decide to part ways.

“I’m excited for Brandin and his family, really happy for us,” Kerr said. “Obviously it all came together and it’s a win-win. We think Brandin is a heck of a young player, a big part of our future, and he secures his future financially. And it’s a deal that makes a lot of sense based on our numbers. … I think it’s a nice relief to get this done and go into a season where he can just focus on basketball. He should be very proud of the work he’s done to get to this place and put himself in this position. position.”
Podziemski, 23, was the only Warriors player and one of 18 in the NBA to appear in all 82 games last season, averaging 13.8 points on 45.5 percent shooting from the field, with 5.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.1 steals in 28.5 minutes.
“We are excited to secure an extension with Brandin before the deadline,” Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy said. “Brandin has continued to improve and expand his game since entering the league as a mid-first round pick, and we believe his upward trajectory will only continue. He is a durable, skilled, two-way player who makes our team better every time he steps on the field.”

The move keeps the 6-foot-4 guard as a key piece for the future in Golden State after the Warriors extended Stephen Curry in September and also took steps to bring back most of their top veterans by re-signing Draymond Green, Al Horford, Kristaps Porziņģis, De’Anthony Melton and Gary Payton II earlier this offseason.
