Bill Belichick is no stranger to rumors swirling around him, but it’s usually in the football direction. Today, his personal life is in the spotlight.
And when he was first asked about it in an interview, he provided a familiar answer: He’s on his way to Cincinnati. Or, in this case, Connecticut.
After North Carolina’s 38-35 loss to No. 1 Miami on Halloween, Belichick was asked about a report that he and girlfriend Jordon Hudson had secretly broken up last year. The famous dry coach didn’t like him.
“You work for a tabloid now?” Belichick asked reporter Brian Murphy of WRAL, who asked the question. “I will keep my personal comments and relationships to myself if that is okay with you.”
The rumors surprised members of the North Carolina program, with two people in the UNC football office telling USA TODAY Sports they were caught off guard by the TMZ report. Belichick and Hudson have been in the public eye on several occasions since the alleged breakup.
While Belichick and Hudson’s relationship initially gained attention due to the significant age gap between the two — Belichick is 74 while Hudson is 25 — the focus on Hudson took on a different meaning when Belichick was hired by the Tar Heels.
In May 2025, approximately five months after Belichick arrived in Chapel Hill, journalist Pablo Torre reported that Hudson had been banned from UNC football facilities. Hudson then filed a series of Freedom of Information Act requests with the school in an attempt to obtain information about communication between UNC athletic department staff members and eight different reporters, including Torre. As recently as late September, the two were spotted at a Maryland high school football game during UNC’s bye week.
After a disastrous 4-8 finish in Belichick’s first season at the school, the Tar Heels showed signs of improvement in year two under the legendary former NFL coach, going 4-4 heading into their Week 10 matchup at UConn.
