Godzilla and nine wild horses walk into a bar, and it’s probably AMC’s. This weekend sees the release of new films from Godzilla and Martin McDonagh, although neither is related to the other. There’s also Bill Hader as the new Cat in the Hat, although he doesn’t commit to Mike Myers’ weird live-action costume.

The Japanese Godzilla films deployed alongside the American Monsterverse create a fascinating contrast. ➽ We have ranked all the great films of the last 50 years.

You know that trailer you couldn’t escape at the cinema? GOOD, New wild horse is actually pretty good. John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell play two CIA friends who decide to visit Easter Island for a bit. The result of their journey is an abrasive, sometimes emotional and dark film from Martin McDonagh.

It’s been almost ten years since Lee Chang-dong’s excellent thriller Burning. The latest one from Chang-dong is Love is possiblea drama exploring the romantic relationships between four strangers. Bilge Ebiri saw the film in Venice and called it “the most powerful, political and hypnotic film of his career.”

The first season came out of nowhere to remind us that creator Joe Barton (Giri/Haji) is pretty good on television. The second brings together spy Helen (Keira Knightley), whose husband is going to become British Prime Minister, and her assassin best friend, Sam (Ben Whishaw), who continues to try to get his way. Soon, Helen, Sam and their various ragtag colleagues and enemies are drawn into a sprawling mystery. —Roxana Hadadi

One of the silver linings of a dwindling TV offerings slate over the past few years is that a fantastic show that otherwise might not have survived the Peak TV tsunami can sometimes find its way back to life with a renewal. So now everyone has more Tracy Morgan in one of the best comedies of this year and a real balm for everyone. 30 Rock fan. —Kathryn VanArendonk

HBO’s international lineup is a treasure trove of interesting shows. Now in its second season, this City of God The spin-off follows the struggle for power after the death of a drug lord and how the criminal justice system, local politicians and lawyers react to this opportunity to shake up the status quo. Anna Lambe stars as Siaja, a young Inuit woman who realizes she is unhappy in her marriage and wants more from her life. Siaja still doesn’t have everything figured out in season two, but the show’s growth as a sitcom continues apace, with awkward townsfolk, slow-burn romance, and as many workplace jokes as you could want. — HR

Unfortunately, Bill Hader won’t be wearing the cat suit again. He simply voices the Cat in the Hat in this animated film that takes a bit of a twist on the classic Dr. Seuss tale. The Cat is sent by his boss (Giancarlo Esposito) to cheer up two children who have just moved to a new neighborhood. And for some reason, Thing 2 disappeared.

The third Super Soldiers is making its way to streaming. From the Broken Lizard comedy troupe, Thorny, Farva, Rabbit, Mac and Foster all come together for a wedding that obviously goes wrong.
