With midterm elections 2 days away, Trump campaigns in Iowa and Kansas as both parties make final push

President Donald Trump accused Democrats of orchestrating a voter confusion scheme in Alaska’s closely watched Senate race Saturday night, calling the controversy over two candidates named Dan Sullivan a “total Democratic scam.”

Speaking to reporters at the Halloween party at Mar-a-Lago, Trump blasted Daniel J. Sullivan, whose name closely resembles outgoing Republican Sen. Dan S. Sullivan.

“This is voter fraud at the highest level,” Trump said, alleging that the candidate with the same name had disappeared from public view.

“And he left the world, and no one can find him now. So he knows he’s guilty,” Trump said.

The president accused Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer and Democratic lawyer Marc Elias of being involved in the controversy.

“This is a real Democratic scam,” Trump said. “And I think they should be held criminally responsible.”

The Justice Department filed a lawsuit seeking to preserve and segregate the ballots casting Daniel J. Sullivan.

Trump also found time for a little Halloween humor, joking that other party-goers spent hours getting their costumes ready while he only had 10 minutes.

“I came as Donald Trump,” he joked.
