Xbox asked Netflix for $800 million for 7-year movie and TV exclusivity

Xbox would have asked Netflix for $800 million for a seven-year deal that would have given the streamer exclusive adaptations based on its games.

Details about the behind-the-scenes dealings between the two entertainment giants come from a Puck report. The site said Netflix, interested in film and television adaptations of some of Microsoft’s biggest games, had started its bid at $500 million.

It’s unclear what exactly the deal would have brought beyond the promise of exclusively licensed Xbox titles for adaptations, but for Microsoft it was worth far more than Netflix was willing to offer. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma and her team countered the offer for a staggering $800 million. Following a series of shakeups at Netflix last week, the deal is reportedly scrapped altogether.
