Xbox CEO Asha Sharma plans new rounds of layoffs this month, November and January, according to Fortune. In July, as part of an organizational “reset”, Sharma announced planned layoffs affecting 3,200 employees in Microsoft’s 2027 fiscal year, including 1,600 cuts at that time, and in September Microsoft laid off approximately 260 employees. Sharma’s changes also included letting Double Fine and Compulsion Games become independent again, although Senua developer Ninja Theory could close.
The report also raises speculation that Xbox could be split up or sold, and Judson Althoff, Microsoft’s CEO of business operations, seemed to downplay the idea to Fortune. “Asha is one of the best leaders we have in the entire company,” Althoff told Fortune. “We wouldn’t put her in a company that we intend to sell. There’s going to be a ton of speculation about that. Time will tell.”
FortuneThe report also states that Microsoft plans to launch a “next generation wearable device” in 2027 and its Project Helix console in 2028.
