ⓘAmazon, Nintendo
Nintendo did not hesitate to challenge Rockstar with a Zelda: Ocarina of Time release date in November. Amazon Sales suggest that the decision has paid off. While targeting very different audiences, the first-party Switch 2 game has secured over 100,000 pre-orders in the last 30 days. This number exceeds cross-platform GTA6 and any title starting in 2026.
NeoGaf forum poster, LordOcidax shared the discovery, which shows strong performance in several countries. THE Ocarina of time remake is also currently the best-selling game in the US market. Further down the graph, GTA6 30-day sales of PS5 and Xbox Standard Edition total around 11,000.
Timing matters
Several factors complicate comparisons between the two titles. Pre-orders for the Zelda game opened on September 8, while reservations for the Rockstar project began in late June. Leonida’s candidate’s purchases were spread over a longer period. While Sensor Tower estimates that 5.75 million units have been moved so far, that could end up winning out.
Exclusively digital GTA6 Ultimate Edition was particularly popular. Of course, Amazon does not consider Xbox or PlayStation Store transactions. Ocarina of time Remake pre-orders are aimed at physical collectors, as the cases contain a cartridge rather than a code. A limited foil cover for the first version of the Switch 2 game furthers its appeal.
A $10 pre-release date discount on Amazon for the modernized Zelda undoubtedly helped sales. Normally, the digital eShop version of first-party Nintendo arrivals is the only way to save. Yet even at Best Buy, where the price remained at $69.99, demand was high enough to warrant a midnight launch event.
Physical merchandise
Shipping alongside Ocarina of time remake are a special edition Zelda Switch 2 console and Pro controller. Hardware has also been in demand, with resellers selling the often out-of-stock units for profit.
Nintendo might have an advantage over third-party retailers, but Rockstar has its own tangible assets to boost revenue. Fans can purchase a GTA6 album, collector’s box and derivative products ranging from T-shirts to pins.
