A child and two adults were injured following a plane crash in San Jose Saturday afternoon, firefighters said.
Fire officials said the crash was reported shortly after 3 p.m. in the area of Capitol Expressway and Excalibur Drive. Two adults and a child suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but were taken to hospital out of an abundance of caution.
The plane’s tail number indicates it is registered with “Flying Twenty,” a nonprofit flying club for San Jose State students, alumni and faculty. According to the club’s website, they fly out of Reid Hillview Airport.
The crash blocked traffic and forced the Alum Rock Avenue exit off Highway 680 to close for a few hours. Neighbors say there have been other accidents involving planes flying out of Reid Hillview, but this is the first time a plane has crashed this close to their home.
The plane was towed out of the intersection Saturday evening.
Authorities said no other people were injured. Firefighters added that the accident resulted in a small spill of fuel, which was absorbed.
