Hot dogs, bacon and sausages among 1.5 million pounds of meat recalled due to serious health concerns

A Massachusetts-based manufacturer has recalled more than 1.5 million pounds of various meat products due to serious potential health concerns.

Kayem Foods Inc. initiated the recall after learning the items may not have been stored at the correct temperature. It has since been deemed a Class I recall by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, meaning “there is a reasonable probability that use of the product will result in serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

An investigation that began after a customer reported receiving a shipment of hot products on Oct. 1 found that a warehouse cooler experienced temperature fluctuations while storing the items, according to FSIS.

Approximately 1,584,361 recalled items were manufactured between March 31, 2026 and October 7, 2026 and have establishment numbers “EST. M/P 7839″, “EST. P 20935A” or “EST. M 9520” inside the USDA inspection mark. The affected items were shipped to retail and food service locations in the United States and Hong Kong.

Products include various brands of hot dogs, bacon, sausages and deli meats. A full list of affected items can be found here.

No illnesses have been reported, but customers in possession of recalled products should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.

The meat recall comes amid a host of issues affecting consumers.

More than 112,000 bottles of painkillers sold by Amazon were voluntarily recalled last week due to discoloration. The news was shared in an enforcement report from the United States Food and Drug Administration.

Various bottles of 500-milligram extra strength acetaminophen caplets sold in the United States have been affected. Customer complaints about discolored tablets led to the voluntary recall initiated by Amazon, according to the report.

The recall includes 90,456 500-count bottles, 14,640 200-count bottles, and 7,836 1,000-count bottles, all with different lot numbers and expiration dates between September 30, 2027 and February 29, 2028.

No injuries or adverse health effects related to tablet discoloration have been reported.

Amazon has contacted customers who purchased the affected bottles for refund information. Customers can view their order history and product lot numbers on the Amazon website.

A pre-workout powder was also recalled after it was found to contain an illegal and dangerous stimulant, the FDA announced last week.

A batch of “Leader Formulas, LLC RAPTURE Preworkout” sold online and in stores between January 2025 and May 2026 was made with “1,3-Dimethylamylamine”, also known as “DMAA”.

DMAA is a synthetic chemical developed from amphetamine, sometimes used in dietary supplements that can increase blood pressure and lead to heart attacks, shortness of breath and chest tightness.
