BYU’s upset of No. 2 Notre Dame last weekend was more than just a schedule-altering victory.
It was also the greatest exhibition the Cougars have had in recent memory.
The BYU-Notre Dame game averaged 9.2 million viewers on ABC and peaked at 13.2 million viewers, according to ESPN PR.
For comparison, the 2025 Big 12 championship game between BYU and Texas Tech drew 8.99 million viewers, and 8.7 million people watched the Cougars at the Pop-Tarts Bowl a few weeks later.
ESPN also shared that BYU and Notre Dame’s 9.2 million viewer mark is the highest for a regular season contest featuring a Big 12 team since 2022.
Additionally, the live broadcast of “College GameDay” in Provo Saturday morning attracted 3.9 million viewers, becoming the No. 3 most-watched regular season episode in the show’s history. Only three of BYU’s 14 games in 2025 drew more viewers than Saturday’s “GameDay.”
