Chinese stocks fall in bear market as $2.4 trillion disappears

Chinese stocks have been dragged into a bear market, losing $2.4 trillion since their May peak, as a prolonged slowdown in consumption and growing doubts about the profitability of artificial intelligence companies make them one of the world’s worst performers.

The CSI 300 index closed down 1.8% on Thursday, bringing its total losses from a June peak to 20%. Indicators for major Chinese companies and technology companies also plunged in Hong Kong, with a months-long sell-off showing little sign of letting up.
