Short Memory, Act I
The blockades of high schools and the urban violence that followed fueled political reactions this week.
In a press release dated October 2, the Jeunes en Marche de Meurthe-et-Moselle (Renaissance youth movement) proposed: “If part of our youth today expresses concerns about their school, we must provide them with answers. Each student must be able to have a teacher in front of them, each teacher must be respected and each establishment must be able to enforce its rules. This is why we are defending concrete measures: permanent lessons to guarantee the continuity of teaching, an increase in salary of €200 to €500 per month for teachers, a national scale of sanctions and a more rapid response to violence and damage. »
All this is good but why didn’t a certain Gabriel Attal, president of Renaissance, put it in place when he was… Minister of Education in 2023?
Short Memory, Act II
The Young Socialists of Meurthe-et-Moselle are also not indifferent to the mobilization of recent days.
In a press release dated October 3, they called for demonstrations on Tuesday October 6: “For several days, we have been witnessing unbearable violence in our streets and against firefighters and law enforcement. This violence must be condemned. We call for calm. And alongside high school students, we are asking for additional resources for the Republic school. This involves additional resources granted to local authorities, responsible for the various school buildings, but today stripped by the government to reimburse ten years of tax gifts to the richest. We demand the repeal of Parcoursup. We also demand a reduction in the number of students per class and an increase in teachers’ salaries. »
Young people warned!
In Nancy, the opposition from the right and the center also calls for an end to the violence.
Like the others, she says she hears “the concerns and demands of high schools”. But she calls for responsibility: “We also call for high school students to remain in control of their mobilization. Their demands must not become an area of recovery or exploitation by organizations or political leaders. »
Otherwise what? No more fries in the canteen?
The mystery
The National Rally also reacted to the situation.
In a Facebook post, Anthony Boulogne, RN deputy for 6e constituency of Meurthe-et-Moselle, says he has counted the “teaching hours lost in National Education”.
“Replacement of short absences, exhaustion and violence suffered by our teachers, job cuts, lack of reliable data: we must act on the causes and give our teachers the means to exercise their profession peacefully,” assures the parliamentarian.
Promotions of the week
Estelle Mercier, PS deputy for 1D constituency of Meurthe-et-Moselle, has just been appointed vice-president of the Finance Committee of the National Assembly.
For his part, Ergün Toparslan, opposition municipal councilor in Nancy, is designated “2027 referent for Meurthe-et-Moselle”, with Emma Klipfel, to defend the candidacy of Gabriel Attal for the Presidential election.
Better than the July 14 promo!
