The much-maligned statue of Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade outside the Miami Heat’s Kaseya Center received significant upgrades this week.
On Friday, the Heat noted that the statue had undergone some “improvements” and shared photos of what appears to be a much better and more accurate likeness of D-Wade’s face:
In a statement provided to Eric Nehm of The Athletic, statue artists Omri Amrany and Oscar Leon said: “After viewing the work on a large scale and in its permanent environment, we identified opportunities to strengthen the portrait. We decided that Dwyane’s importance warranted making these improvements rather than accepting something we thought could be improved. »
The statue, which was originally unveiled in 2024, was widely criticized due to the notion that the face looked nothing like Wade, who led the Heat to three NBA championships.
