Stellar Blade also arrived on Switch 2 this week, and it’s been received positively so far. Here at Nintendo Life, we gave it a score of seven out of ten, and while there are some technical drawbacks, Eve’s release stands out on the hybrid platform.
The team at Digital Foundry has now delivered its technical review of the Unreal Engine 4 title, and while it’s not a “tour de force”, it does result in a “better than expected Switch 2 port”, with what is described as an experience with “softer compromises” than many newer titles.
“Technically, it’s not a tour de force either, with more conservative visual technology that doesn’t leverage current-gen hardware like many other big-budget titles, but it results in a better-than-expected Switch 2 port, with gentler compromises than many newer titles. Not everything survives intact, but the game’s visual character isn’t disrupted by excising key lighting systems or anything like that. Instead, players can expect a range of more iterative asset downgrades, some of which are only really valid one-on-one.”
As for frame generation, on Switch 2, Digital Foundry says it’s “not a bad choice given the console’s CPU and GPU limitations”, but in the case of Stellar Blade, a “40fps targeting option” could have provided a better experience than outputting at 60fps with frame generation enabled. You can also disable frame generation and the game will hover around the 40fps mark.
Overall, though, Stellar Blade boils down to a “reasonable” and “playable” experience on Nintendo’s new console. You can get a full preview in the video above. There’s also a demo on the eShop, and you’ll find out more about its performance in our review here on Nintendo Life:
