PICO-UNION, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Two children under the age of 10 were killed in a shooting Sunday in the Pico-Union neighborhood of Los Angeles after their father allegedly opened fire on them before turning the gun on himself, police said.

The shooting happened shortly before 1 p.m. near Venice Boulevard and Catalina Street, Los Angeles police said. The father allegedly shot his 10-year-old daughter and his 4-year-old son before turning the gun on himself, according to police.

The children were transported to hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Police said the shooter, described as a Hispanic man between 30 and 40 years old, was in custody while being treated at a hospital. His condition was not immediately available.

Police said no additional suspects are being sought and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Video from the Citizen app captured the chaotic aftermath of the shooting. A witness said: “Oh my God, I was on the bus when it happened. »

Another witness in the video said: “He shot himself in the head. He shot himself in the head. »

These deaths shook the neighbors.

“I’m really, really sad for them. I have family too. I don’t want anything bad to happen to them,” said a community member.

AIR7 video showed several Los Angeles police and fire vehicles at the scene, which were cordoned off with yellow police tape.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
