The full list of MCU characters who will appear in “Avengers: Doomsday” may still be a mystery, but Jeremy Renner has made it clear that he hasn’t returned as Hawkeye – and says the Avengers will “probably lose” as a result.
“No, no, no, no. Not in this one,” Renner replied when asked if he would return for “Doomsday” during a recent interview. “‘Doomsday,’ I’m not in it, so the Avengers are probably going to lose, just so you know… they didn’t call me, so it’s their fault. They’re going to lose.”
Although he won’t be reprising the role of Hawkeye for “Doomsday,” the actor noted that he’s excited about the “Avengers: Endgame” re-release, which brought the 2019 film back to theaters ahead of “Doomsday’s” Dec. 18 release. Renner has previously played the superhero in “The Avengers,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Endgame,” in addition to other films like “Thor” and “Captain America: Civil War,” in which he made brief appearances.
In 2025, Renner said he’s ready to return to the MCU, whether it’s for “Hawkeye” Season 2 or something else. “I’m still happy to be in this world, man. I love all these guys, I love the character,” Renner told Empire. “I’m sure we’ll end up doing Season 2 (of ‘Hawkeye’) and doing other things. And I’m happy to do that. My body is preparing for something like that. I don’t know if anyone wants to see me in tights, but my body will look great in tights.”
At the time, he also noted that he was “over 150 percent” recovered from his snowmobile accident in 2023, meaning he was ready to perform his own stunts for Marvel films. Renner had been hospitalized after his Sno-Cat, a large snowplow weighing at least 14,330 pounds, ran over him, resulting in broken eight ribs in 14 places, a broken right knee and ankle, a broken left leg tibia, a broken left ankle, a broken right collarbone, a broken right shoulder and more.
