LGA close call under FAA investigation between Delta flight and business jet at LaGuardia

NEW YORK (WABC)– The FAA is investigating after a business jet took off without authorization at LaGuardia Airport as a Delta regional flight was about to land on an intersecting runway, forcing the Delta flight to perform a go-around last week.

This happened on October 7, shortly before 4 p.m. According to data from Flightradar24, the two planes were approximately 1,000 feet apart at their closest points.

The Delta regional jet was traveling at about 147 mph before the plane reversed and circled and the business jet was traveling at about 103 mph.

In the air traffic control audio, the controller and pilot disagree over whether the business jet pilot had clearance to take off.

“The crew conducted a go-around to ensure safe separation from a departing aircraft on a nearby runway,” Delta said in a statement to ABC.

The flight landed safely.
