OKLAHOMA COUNTY, Okla. — A spectacular escape was caught on body camera after a suspected copper thief in Oklahoma jumped through a closed window.
“He’s an experienced deputy, he’d never seen anything like this before, and by the time he got out, our suspect was long gone,” said Aaron Brilbeck with the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office.
Body camera video shows when a suspect dove through a closed window to escape a deputy investigating a burglary at a vacant Oklahoma County home near Sunset Lane on Oct. 1.
The sheriff’s office said the suspect appeared to be stealing copper from appliances.
The officer attempted to find the suspect in his patrol car, then launched a drone to try to find him from the air, but was unsuccessful.
But then there remained a key piece of evidence, as well as a bicycle.
“He was kind enough to leave his backpack behind, and inside his backpack was his driver’s license, so that made it very easy to identify him,” Brilbeck said.
The sheriff’s office says the suspect has a history of theft and drug-related charges.
Although he left his driver’s license behind, the suspect remained on the run during the last check.
