Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced’s latest major update adds the highly anticipated New Game Plus, a new Nightmare difficulty, and much more.

After a period of calm and a few small updates, Ubisoft today revealed a massive update for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. This is the last major patch for the game and it includes some long-requested features.

Update 1.0.8 goes live on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S today (October 27) at 7 a.m. PT, 10 a.m. ET, 2 p.m. UK. It’s a relatively small download on all platforms – between 2 and 4.5 GB – except Xbox, where it’s a whopping 15.5 GB.

The biggest addition in the new update is New Game Plus mode, which Ubisoft started working on in July after the release of Resynced. Much of what is earned and unlocked during your current playthrough carries over to NG+, but not everything does. Here is what continues:

  • All of Edward’s tools, upgrades, unlocked weapons, and trinkets.
  • All Jackdaw upgrades, unlocked officer abilities and pets. The officers will not be physically on board the ship and will have to be re-recruited.
  • All money, materials and business goods in inventory. All customizable outfits unlocked and their options.
  • Stash progression, perks and art collection.
  • All ships in the Kenway fleet.
  • Codex items including each treasure map, acquired and completed.
  • Items purchased at the store.

Although money and trade goods are transferred, quest-related items are not. Forts also need to be retaken, as NG+ resets the map’s fog of war.

NG+ mode features an exclusive new currency – Escudos – earned by completing challenges and looting previously unlocked chests. The currency can be spent on exclusive NG+ outfits and items, and you will also be able to exchange Reales for Escudos at the General Store.

Naturally, the game difficulty increases with each run of NG+. Elite soldiers, for example, will appear more often and max-tier ships will be more common on the water. You can access NG+ up to five times, with each additional pass increasing the challenge.

Patch 1.0.8 also introduces Nightmare Mode, a brutal new difficulty setting. Ubisoft said that enemy reaction times and damage dealt are speeding up. Parry times are tighter and ranged enemies will target you more often.

The biggest change, however, is the one-shot security removal. In other words, the game will not prevent you from dying instantly, such as in cases where you take significant damage from bullets and explosives. In these cases, you will die, even if you have HP remaining. The goal was to create a tough experience “where every duel can be your last.”

Elsewhere in the patch, new Community Chests are hidden throughout the game world for players to discover. There are a bunch of new cosmetics, new takedown animations, and of course, a litany of bug fixes. The full changelog can be found on the official Assassin’s Creed website. It’s worth a read if you want to try a read on Nightmare to see what it changes.

While this may be the last big update for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the game is apparently on its way to Switch 2, and this version should include all of the previously released additions, as we’ve come to expect.
