After a short teaser lit up the internet with news of their return, Dead Man’s Bones, the duo of Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields, are officially back with their first new music in 17 years. “Lost in the Night” was produced with longtime collaborator Tim Anderson, and it receives a black-and-white music video featuring Hamnetit’s Noah Jupe and The summer I became prettyby Rain Spencer which relies on his loving words. Check it out below.
Dead Man’s Bones decided to write new music in recent years, but couldn’t decide where to record it. The duo tried out several Los Angeles studios before heading to a farm outside the city with equipment – two guitars, two drum machines and two synthesizers – where they proceeded to record “Lost in the Night” in one day.
Dead Man’s Bones’ first and only album was released in 2009. Gosling and Shields worked closely with the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir, a California educational organization founded by Flea, on their self-titled debut album to realize its blend of indie rock, gothic folk and doo-wop. The duo retreated from the public eye after promoting their debut album. However, they have found renewed interest over the years through covers (such as Cat Power tackling “Pa Pa Power” for her 2022 album Blankets), various movie and TV syncs, and a seasonal increase thanks to social media users playing their music around Halloween.
