CJ Gardner-Johnson’s suspension is over, but he will not return to the Bills.
Buffalo announced Gardner-Johnson was released Tuesday afternoon.
Gardner-Johnson was suspended for Week 8 after spitting on an opponent during Buffalo’s Week 6 win over Las Vegas.
According to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, Gardner-Johnson’s release had more to do with the inconsistency in his play than the spitting incident, with the team feeling there was too much “what is he doing?” plays.
Damar Hamlin is set to start at safety with the release of Gardner-Johnson.
In six games, Gardner-Johnson recorded 26 total tackles, two passes defended and one interception.
