Note: This story contains details of the Oct. 15 shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School. The audio included in this story features Kaylub Giamanco’s real-time approach to school. The audio contains strong language and listeners may find the audio distressing.
Deschutes County released audio of the 911 call Kaylub Giamanco made on Oct. 15, shortly before he entered a Bend elementary school and fatally shot a teenager who had entered the school and killed four people with a shotgun.
Portions of the 78-second audio are garbled, but they largely corroborate the account Giamanco gave in an exclusive interview with OPB last month about the Silver Rail Elementary School shooting.

Below is the 911 call made by Giamanco.
Giamanco, who described himself in the OPB interview as being “completely panicked” as he approached the school that day, told the 911 dispatcher, “Oh my God, someone is at my daughters’ school with a gun.” I have a gun and I will shoot them right now if I have to. »
The dispatcher told Giamanco to tell him exactly what happened, to “do nothing” and let her send an officer to the scene.
Giamanco starts shouting “Silver Rail Elementary! Silver Rail Elementary!” as the dispatcher tells him to stay on the line and asks him what phone number he is calling from.
“It’s my daughter’s school!” » Giamanco said during the call. “I’m about to go kill this kid. He’s at school!”
The dispatcher then asks if Giamanco knows who the shooter is. He said no, that he was driving home. Giamanco continues to scream, but his words are obscured by the dispatcher asking where exactly they are.
“He’s at school!” shouts Giamanco. “Silver Rail Elemental!”

The dispatcher asks where the school is. Giamanco, visibly frustrated, tells him it’s the south side.
“Enter the building. Right now!” he said. “Damn, they’re shooting (expletive) at people! Come on!”
“Is he shooting it?” » asks the dispatcher.
“Yeah,” Gimanco said more softly. “He shoots.”
The dispatcher steps in to say “OK,” then asks if the shooter is white, black or Hispanic. At this point, Giamanco’s end of the line goes silent.
In his interview with OPB, Giamanco recalled that he told the dispatcher, “I’m sorry, I have to come in.” People are going to die,” at one point before ending the call. Giamanco cannot be heard on the tape saying those exact words. However, Giamanco’s entire phone call is not audible on the recording released by Deschutes County.
“I need you to tell me what’s going on,” the dispatcher said. “We have help on the way.”
At that time, according to his previous interview with OPB, Giamanco was heading to school. The call continues for a few seconds and several other calls to the 911 dispatch center regarding the shooting can be heard in the background.
