“Carrie,” Amazon Prime Video’s series adaptation of Stephen King’s famous 1974 novel of the same name, has been renewed for a second season that will go beyond the events of the book.
According to the official description of the series, “Carrie White (Summer H. Howell), a misfit high school student, has spent her life hidden within the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After the sudden and untimely death of her father thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that is tearing apart her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social media age, and the awakening mysterious telekinetic powers that arise alongside Howell and Sloyan, the cast includes Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder and Matthew Lillard.
Mike Flanagan serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside King.
“‘Carrie’ reaches both longtime Stephen King fans and a new generation, including young adults and international audiences, with particular strength among female viewers,” read a statement from Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios. “It’s a testament to the enduring power of this story and signals that Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of the iconic intellectual property has real scale. We’re excited about the direction he and Stephen plan to take the story.”
“For 50 years, audiences have known and cared about Carrie White’s story. From the beginning, we envisioned a story that went far beyond prom, and I am incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next,” Flanagan said.
“I can’t wait for audiences to see what’s in store for Carrie White. Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what’s next. It’s sure to be exciting,” King said.
