Foo Fighters have delved into the deepest recesses of their catalog to release a cover of the 1978 Gerry Rafferty classic. Rue des Boulangers.
Foo’s version of Rue des Boulangers was first released in November 1997 on a limited edition EP accompanying the album Color and shape, alongside covers of songs by Killing Joke, Prince and Gary Numan. It also appeared on some versions of the My hero single the following year, and the Moderately rarethe Record Store Day covers compilation released in 2010.
The recording also resurfaced in the 10th anniversary editions of Color and shape in 2007, but has been largely absent from Spotify and other streaming platforms due to licensing and distribution limitations.

Dave Grohl & Co. originally recorded Rue des Boulangers for BBC Radio One Evening session in April 1997, and the song made sporadic appearances on their setlist over the decades that followed. It returned this week as the band covered it during their four-night residency on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
Grohl also performed Rue des Boulangers at an event honoring the late Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Hillel Slovak at the Silverlake Conservatory in Los Angeles earlier this month, where he dedicated the song to “all the people who listened to AM radio in the ’70s when their mom and dad drove them around in their Ford Maverick.”
