Nvidia CEO reportedly targeted by suspected Chinese spy | Nvidia

U.S. intelligence agencies believe Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was the target of a suspected Chinese spy who had done business with him, according to a new report from the New York Times.

Alice Huang or Huang Le, no relation to the Nvidia CEO, is an executive at a Singapore-based data center company called Megaspeed. She was previously suspected of smuggling Nvidia chips into China, prompting U.S. authorities to monitor and surveil her. Those officials determined that she was acting as an agent of Chinese intelligence, passing business information to Beijing, The New York Times reported, citing unnamed sources.

During their surveillance, U.S. officials determined that Alice Huang had developed a close relationship with Nvidia’s CEO, according to the Times. Nvidia’s powerful chips are the cornerstone of the AI boom and have propelled Jensen Huang to one of the most influential leadership positions in the industry. In this role, he developed a close partnership with Donald Trump as the US government attempts to defend its leadership position in the development of AI.

White House officials are reportedly alarmed by Alice Huang’s accession to the helm of Nvidia precisely because of the close relationship he has developed with Trump, according to the New York Times.

The Trump administration has imposed restrictions on exports of advanced AI chips to China over national security concerns. Megaspeed’s Huang was suspected of helping the government circumvent these restrictions.

In a statement to the New York Times, Nvidia said there was nothing out of the ordinary about the Nvidia CEO’s interactions with Alice Huang.

“Meetings with clients are part of a CEO’s job; Jensen speaks with thousands of client executives each year,” the spokesperson said in a statement. Megaspeed and its customers “receive ordinary commercial information – not sensitive Nvidia trade secrets – and no information relevant to national security.”
