More than 190,000 Georgia voters cast ballots Tuesday, setting a record for the first day of early voting in a midterm election.
The total represents a jump of more than 55,000 votes from the first day of early voting in Georgia’s 2022 midterm elections, and nearly 120,000 more than the first day of early voting in 2018.
“This record turnout proves that voters have confidence in the integrity of our elections,” Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said in a statement. “This is a testament to the strength of our election system, overseen by 159 of the nation’s top county election officials.”
As of Tuesday, an additional 10,300 absentee ballots were also accepted.
Tuesday’s record follows a similar pattern to May’s primary election, when Georgia voters broke record early voting turnout. More than a million people voted at the end of the three-week early voting period, far surpassing the previous record of 857,000 set in the 2022 primary election.
